English 101 - Dr. Mandy Suhr-Sytsma
Project 3 - abstract
In my personal text A Foreign Student in a Foreign Situation, I delve into a real-life situation that gave me motivation to explore how international students need to be taken into consideration by instructors and curriculums of schools. I gain evidence from Terry Myers Zawacki and Anna Sophia Habib in their text “Will Our Stories Help Teachers Understand?”: Multilingual Students Talk about Identity, Voice, and Expectations across Academic Communities, and from an interview with Mackenzie Bristow - Director of English Language Support Program at Laney Graduate School at Emory University. Both sources discuss international students, language acquisition and instruction for ESOL students, and I draw on this evidence to contextualize my personal text, and extend it to suggestions in education. I result in exploring differences in cultures, cultural adaptations, and real world implications that need to be taken into consideration in education.
